“Oh, I didn't know.” Why I built Forgot.

Maker of Forgot

I've worked in the software industry for more than 12 years and led dozens of teams along the way. Some of them handled vacations and milestones well. Some handled them really badly. Some used nice tools, some used spreadsheets.

I always felt something was missing. We had Jira or something like it for tasks and low-level planning. We had vacation calendars. We had milestones and quarterly goals. But between all of that, a middle layer was missing: a view of the bigger initiatives and how they fit into the team calendar.

In weekly meetings I heard this exchange more times than I can count:

“Hey, I'm on vacation next week.”

“Oh, I didn't know. Who's going to handle X then?”

And timelines we agreed on were simply forgotten a week or two later.

I wanted something in between. Something simple to change, because plans are always shifting. Something that doesn't need a complex setup. That's how Forgot was born.

I build and run Forgot myself. If something is missing or broken, email hello@forgot.dev and I'll read it.
