Set it in Slack on desktop
- 1Click your profile picture, then Update your status.
- 2Click the smiley to pick an emoji, then type or paste your status.
- 3Under Clear after, pick when it goes away. For time off, choose Choose date and time and pick the morning you're back.
- 4Click Save. For time off, also pick Pause notifications from the same menu.
Set it on your phone
- 1Tap You at the bottom right.

Set it in Teams

Questions
What is a good Slack status for work?
One that answers the question people have before they message you: are you around, and when will you reply? "🌴 On vacation, back Monday. Ask Sam for anything urgent" does that in one line. Add a date and a backup and nobody has to guess.
How long can a Slack status be?
100 characters for the text, plus one emoji. The generator counts as you go and only offers statuses that fit.
How do I set a Slack status?
On desktop, click your profile picture, then Update your status. Pick an emoji, type or paste the status, choose when to clear it, and save. On your phone, tap You, then Update your status.
Can I make my Slack status clear by itself?
Yes. In the status window, Clear after offers 30 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours, Today, This week, or a date and time you choose. For vacation, pick the morning you're back.
What status should I set on a public holiday?
Say it's a public holiday where you are and when you're back: "🇮🇳 Public holiday in India (Diwali), back Monday". Coworkers in other countries often don't know your holidays, so naming the place saves them from wondering why you're quiet. Pick your country in the generator and it lists your next holidays with the back day worked out.
Should I also pause notifications?
For vacation, sick days and focus time, yes. Pause notifications in the same profile menu stops the pings until the time you pick, and people see that you've paused them.
Is anything I type saved or sent?
No. The statuses are written by hand and filled in in your browser. Picking a country loads its public holidays, the same list for everyone, and nothing about you is sent or stored.
