Annual leave in the UK, what you're entitled to.
28 days
Statutory paid leave on a five-day week (5.6 weeks)
8
Bank holidays in England and Wales, 9 in Scotland and 10 in Northern Ireland
1.6 weeks
Of leave you can carry over at most, and only if your contract allows it
Almost every worker in the UK gets 5.6 weeks of paid holiday a year: 28 days on a five-day week. The catch is that employers can count bank holidays as part of it, so "20 days plus bank holidays" is the legal minimum, not a perk. Office contracts often give 25 days plus bank holidays. The planner starts at 25 with bank holidays on top; if your bank holidays come out of your allowance, enter what's left after them.
England and Wales have 8 bank holidays, Scotland 9 and Northern Ireland 10, so pick your nation in the planner. When one falls on a weekend, a substitute weekday is given instead. Half of England's bank holidays are Mondays that already make a long weekend, so the leave worth spending goes around Easter and Christmas, where a few days bridge two holidays at once.

Questions
How do I make the most of my annual leave in 2027?
Spend days of leave on the workdays between a holiday and a weekend, so each one unlocks days you'd have off anyway. The best deals in the UK in 2027: Early May bank holiday week, May 1 – 9 (9 days off for 4 days of leave); Spring bank holiday week, May 29 – Jun 6 (9 days off for 4 days of leave); Christmas & New Year week, Dec 25 – Jan 3 (10 days off for 3 days of leave). The planner above finds every one of these for your allowance and puts them on your calendar.
Are bank holidays part of my 28 days?
They can be. The law gives you 5.6 weeks and lets your employer count bank holidays toward it. Check your contract: "20 days plus bank holidays" adds up to the same 28 days as "28 days including bank holidays".
What happens when a bank holiday falls on a weekend?
A substitute day is given, usually the Monday after. When Christmas Day and Boxing Day both land on a weekend, the substitutes are the Monday and Tuesday that follow.
Can I carry unused leave into next year?
Only if your contract allows it, and then usually up to 1.6 weeks (8 days for full-time staff). The other four weeks have to be taken in the leave year, unless sickness or parental leave stopped you.
What is a bridge day?
A workday stuck between a public holiday and a weekend. Take it off and one day of leave gets you four days off in a row.
How many days off can I get with 25 days of leave?
In 2027, around the 7 holidays most people in the UK get off: 10 days of leave become 36 days off, 25 days of leave become 73 days off, 30 days of leave become 88 days off. The exact number depends on the kind of breaks you pick and the holidays your employer gives.
What if my company's holidays are different?
Open "Holidays and weekend" to switch holidays on or off, or change which days are your weekend. Click any workday on the calendar to mark a day you already have off, like a company holiday or a shutdown week.
Is my plan saved anywhere?
Nothing is stored and there's no sign-up. The plan lives in the link in your address bar: bookmark it, or share it and whoever opens it sees the same plan.
Can I plan time off for my whole team?
This planner is for one person's year. If you manage a team, Forgot puts everyone's time off, public holidays and release dates on one calendar, so you see when too many people are out before it's a problem. It's free for 14 days, then a one-time payment.
