Turn your team into a deck of trading cards.

Everyone gets a card with their photo, a one-liner, where they are and what time it is there. Flip it for their toxic trait, the hill they'll die on and their Roman Empire. Send one link, and nobody needs an account.

Make your team's deck. It takes a minute.

Name it, pick the questions, sliders and photo prompts, add a field or two to browse by, and you'll get the link to send on the next screen. Add your own card first: people fill in a deck that already has a face in it.

The team, the department, or the whole company. It's the title of the deck.

Free. No sign-up for you or anyone on the team.

Why it works when other culture things feel forced.

On a remote team you can work with someone for a year and know nothing about them except their Slack avatar. A deck of cards fixes that in a way a "fun Friday" call doesn't, because it's lightweight and voluntary. Nobody is put on the spot. People share what they want, flip through what they want, and the deck is there whenever someone new joins. Their card shows up gold for their first week, so everyone notices.

Keep it short and a little silly. Two easy questions, one cheeky one and three sliders is plenty, and every one can be skipped. Ask each new person to make their card in their first week and drop the link in the team channel when they do. The card gives everyone an easy first message: "You have a beagle too?"

Need more questions? Here are over 100 icebreaker questions for work, including a cheeky list, ones for remote teams and quick this-or-that rounds.

How to run it in three steps.

  1. ๐Ÿƒ

    Step 1

    Make the deck

Pick the questions, sliders and photo prompts, and add fields like Team or Office to browse by. Then make your own card first.

  2. ๐Ÿ”—

    Step 2

    Send one link

Paste the invite in the team channel, or put it in your onboarding checklist for new hires.

  3. ๐Ÿ‘€

    Step 3

    Flip through

Browse by team or city, shuffle the deck, see who's awake right now, and save a card as a picture for Slack.

Questions

What are team intro cards?

A deck with one card per teammate. The front has their photo (or a drawn doodle), a one-liner, their role, where they live and what time it is there. The back has their answers to a few fun questions and where they land on this-or-that sliders like early bird or night owl. New people flip through everyone's cards, and everyone reads theirs.

Does anyone need an account?

No. You make the deck and get one link. Anyone with the link can add a card in about two minutes. Each person can edit their own card later from the same browser.

Who can see the deck?

Only people with the link. Decks aren't listed anywhere and search engines are told not to index them. You keep a second, private link that lets you remove cards.

Can people upload a photo?

Yes, and they frame it right on the card: drag to move, pinch or scroll to zoom. On a computer they can scan a QR code and take the photo with their phone instead; it lands on the card a second later. Camera shy people pick a drawn doodle. You also choose up to three photo prompts for the back, like the view from their desk, their pet or their go-to mug, and each one lands on the card as a captioned polaroid.

Can I add our team logo?

Yes. Whoever made the deck adds it from the deck page. It shows above the team name, in the corner of every card and on the preview when the link is pasted in Slack or Teams.

What questions should I ask?

Mix two easy ones with one or two cheeky ones, then add three sliders. Pets and favorite food always work; "What's your Roman Empire?" and "Your most controversial food opinion" get the best answers. Every question is optional for the person answering, which is a big part of why people fill them in.

Can people browse the deck by team or office?

Yes. When you make the deck you add fields like Team, Office or Department with the options to pick from, and everyone picks theirs on their card. The deck then filters and groups by any of them, by city, or by who's awake right now, and the filter is in the link so you can send someone straight to the Platform team.

How is this different from a Notion page or a Slack intro thread?

It works the same way, without the setup. Everyone gets the same questions and the same card, nobody has to be given edit access, and the deck shows each person's local time and where the whole team lands on each slider.

Can I put the team on a calendar?

Yes. Every deck has a button that turns everyone into a Forgot calendar, with their face, city and time zone already filled in. Forgot shows vacations, public holidays in each person's country and release dates on one board. It's free for 14 days.

Now you know them. Know when they're out, too.

Forgot puts your team's vacations, public holidays and release dates on one calendar, so you see who's out before you promise a date.
