Free Zoom timer
A timer on your Zoom screen that everyone can see.
Zoom can show you how long a meeting has been going, but only on your own screen. To give everyone a countdown, share one: set the timer here, float it over your screen, share your screen in Zoom, and the whole meeting watches the minutes run down. Nothing to install in Zoom, nothing to sign up for.

How to show a timer in a Zoom meeting.
- 1Set the timer up herePick a countdown, an agenda or a standup, set the minutes and give it a label. Pick a look while you're at it.
- 2Float it over your screenPress Float over my screen and drag the small window into a corner. It stays on top of Zoom and everything else.
- 3Share your screen in ZoomClick Share in the Zoom toolbar (Share Screen in older versions), pick your whole screen under Basic rather than a single window, and click Share. Tick Share sound first if you want the call to hear the chime.
- 4Start itPress Start, or Space. Everyone sees the minutes go down, then amber when time runs low and red when it's up, without anyone saying a word.
Four timers, one floating window.
Switch between them at the top of the timer. Each one remembers its own minutes, names and items.
Countdown
One block of time: a focus session, a workshop exercise, a break, a talk. Amber near the end, red past zero.
Agenda
A timer for every item, with what's next on screen. Press Next when an item ends early; the rail shows what's done.
Standup
Names in speaking order, shuffled every round if you like. Everyone gets the same turn, and the next name is always showing.
Stopwatch
Counts up with no limit, for open-ended sessions: you'll know exactly how long that brainstorm took.
Make it look like it's yours.
It's on everyone's screen for the whole meeting, so it might as well look good. Pick a look, a typeface and how it shows progress.

Your colors
Floats over everything
Pop it out and it stays on top of your slides, your editor and the call, in Chrome and Edge. Drag it anywhere, resize it from the edges.
Ten looks, or your own
Gradients, Forgot blue, Midnight, Paper, Terminal, or pick your own color or gradient. The text color adjusts so it stays readable.
Four typefaces
Bold, thin, mono or serif digits, sized to fill whatever window it's in, from a corner of your screen to a wall display.
Progress your way
A bar along the bottom, a wash that drains behind the digits, a ring next to them, or nothing at all.
Buttons that get out of the way
While it runs, the controls fade until you move the mouse, so the shared screen shows only the time.
Keyboard first
Space starts and pauses, N moves on, plus and minus add or take a minute, R resets, P pops it out, F goes full screen.
Shows when it ends
“Ends 10:45 AM” in the corner, worked out from what's left of every item, so the room knows when it's free.
A link for the team
Copy a link with every setting in it, so whoever runs tomorrow's meeting opens the same timer, names and look.
Sharing one window instead of your screen?
When you share a single window in Zoom, only that window goes to the call, so the floating timer stays on your side. There are two ways round it: share your whole screen instead, or press Open as a window on this page and share the timer's own window.
The second one is handy when the timer is all you want people to see: a silent brainstorm, a workshop exercise, a five-minute break. With two displays, share the one with your slides and drag the floating timer onto it.
Keep Zoom calls inside the time on the invite.
Zoom's free Basic plan ends meetings at 40 minutes. A 35-minute countdown with a five-minute warning tells everyone to wrap up before Zoom does it for you, mid-sentence.
On a paid plan the limit is the calendar instead. Share the timer before the first item, so the agenda and its times are the first thing people see. When an item hits zero, decide out loud: finish it now, add a minute with the plus key, or park it for the end.
The meeting that runs best is the one everyone can make.
Forgot shows the whole team's time off, public holidays and on-call on one board, so you book the meeting on a day people are in, not the week half the team is away.
Try it free for 14 daysMore for meetings: the meeting cost calculator has a live ticker that floats over your screen share the same way, the retrospective games come with timed agendas, and the 1:1 questions fill the time you saved.
Questions
How do I put a timer on my Zoom screen?
Set the timer up on this page, press Float over my screen, then click Share in Zoom and pick your whole screen, not a single window. The floating timer sits on top of everything you share, so everyone on the call sees it count down.
Does Zoom have a built-in timer?
Zoom can show how long the meeting has been going (Settings, General, Show my meeting duration), but only you see it, and breakout rooms count down when the host closes them. For a countdown the whole call sees, share one: a timer that floats over your screen like this one, or an app from the Zoom App Marketplace.
Can I show a timer in Zoom without sharing my desktop?
Yes: open the timer as a window and share only that window. People see the timer and nothing else on your computer. To show the timer over your slides, you need to share the whole screen.
How do I time a free 40-minute Zoom meeting?
Set a 35-minute countdown with a five-minute warning. It turns amber at five minutes left, so there's time to agree next steps before Zoom ends the meeting at 40.
Will the timer show up in the Zoom recording?
Yes, when it's part of what you share. Zoom records the shared screen, so the floating timer is in the recording along with your slides.
Does it work with the Zoom app on Mac and Windows?
Yes. The timer runs in Chrome or Edge next to the Zoom desktop app, or next to Zoom in the browser. The floating window needs Chrome or Edge on a computer; on a phone or tablet, share from a computer instead.
