Team holidays 2027

Lunar New Year 2027: Saturday February 6, 2027.

Lunar New Year 2027 falls on Saturday February 6, starting the Year of the Goat. It's the biggest holiday of the year across much of East and Southeast Asia, and for teams with people or vendors in China, Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong or Singapore, it's the week that work slows down most.

Because the day is a Saturday, most places add a substitute weekday off. In China the Spring Festival break usually runs about a week, with weekend make-up days around it, and many people take extra days to travel home.

Lunar New Year's Day is fixed by the lunisolar calendar. Each country's days off are set by its government, and China's full Spring Festival schedule, with its make-up working weekends, is usually announced by the State Council late in the year before. The days below come from each country's holiday rules and may change when the official schedules are out.

What it means for your team.

Expect the first week of February to be slow for anyone in the region, and the days from Friday February 5 into the following week to be mostly off in China, Taiwan and South Korea. Vendors and contract manufacturers in China often stop for longer, and the weeks before are busy with people finishing work early.

If you have a release planned for early February, check who's needed for it. A release on Tuesday February 9 lands in the middle of the break for a team in Shanghai or Seoul.

  • Ask early

Ask teammates in the region in December which days they'll take. Many add days to travel home.

  • Count the make-up days

China moves working days onto weekends around the Spring Festival. A Saturday can be a working day.

  • Move releases

Don't ship something that needs people in the region in the week of February 8.

  • Tell customers

If you support customers in the region, say when replies will be slower.
