About Truth and Reconciliation Day.
The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also called Orange Shirt Day, honors the children who never came home from residential schools, and the survivors, their families and communities. It became a federal statutory holiday in 2021.
Federally regulated workplaces get the day off, and so do workers in British Columbia, Manitoba, Prince Edward Island and the three territories, where it's a statutory holiday too. In Alberta it's an optional general holiday. In Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan and the other Atlantic provinces it's a regular workday unless your employer gives it.
