Set a status message in Teams
- 1Click your profile picture at the top right, then Set status message.
- 2Type or paste your message. Emoji work in the text.
- 3Turn on Show when people message me, so people see it as they start a chat.
- 4Under Clear status message after, pick when it goes, then click Done.
Schedule out of office in Teams
- 1Click your profile picture, then Set status message, then Schedule out of office.
- 2Turn on the automatic reply and write your message.
- 3Turn on Send replies only during a time period and pick your dates.
- 4Click Save. Teams shows you as out of office for exactly those days.
Or in Slack
- 1Click your profile picture, then Update your status.
- 2Click the smiley to pick an emoji, then type or paste your status.
- 3Under Clear after, pick when it goes away. For time off, choose Choose date and time and pick the morning you're back.

Questions
How do I set a status message in Teams?
Click your profile picture at the top right, then Set status message. Type or paste the message, turn on Show when people message me, pick when to clear it under Clear status message after, and click Done.
What should my Teams status message say?
When you're around and who to ask if you're not: "🌴 On vacation, back Monday. Ask Sam for anything urgent". With Show when people message me turned on, people see it as soon as they start a chat with you.
How long can a Teams status message be?
Up to 280 characters. Shorter reads better: people see it above the box where they type.
Can I schedule out of office in Teams?
Yes. In Set status message, choose Schedule out of office, turn on the automatic reply and pick the dates. Teams shows you as out of office for that time and sends the reply to people who message you.
What status should I set on a public holiday?
Say it's a public holiday where you are and when you're back: "🇮🇳 Public holiday in India (Diwali), back Monday". Coworkers in other countries often don't know your holidays, so naming the place saves them from wondering why you're quiet. Pick your country in the generator and it lists your next holidays with the back day worked out.
Is anything I type saved or sent?
No. The statuses are written by hand and filled in in your browser. Picking a country loads its public holidays, the same list for everyone, and nothing about you is sent or stored.
